Fulham Survive Penalty Shootout To Reach Efl Cup Fourth Round

Fulham survive penalty shootout to reach EFL Cup fourth round

Fulham beat Preston on penalties in the Carabao Cup after a goalless draw at Deepdale.

Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak was the hero, saving spot-kicks from Bambo Diaby and Ryan Ledson after Tom Cairney had put the visitors ahead from the spot in the shootout.

Fulham will now face Southampton in the fourth round of the competition.

Fulham had the better chances in the first half, with Harry Wilson firing wide from a good position and Bobby Decordova-Reid seeing his shot saved by Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

Preston improved after the break and went close to taking the lead when Emil Riis Jakobsen's shot was cleared off the line by Shane Duffy.

With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, the game went to a penalty shootout.

Cairney gave Fulham the lead from the spot, but Diaby leveled for Preston.

Josh Onomah and Fabio Carvalho then scored for Fulham, but Sean Maguire kept Preston in the tie with his penalty.

Fulham substitute Nathaniel Chalobah saw his penalty saved by Iversen, but Rodak saved Diaby's spot-kick and then denied Ledson to send Fulham through.
